Workshop “Building a National Job Portal for Vietnamese Graduates”

From March, 14th  to March, 18th 2022 the project “Monitoring and supporting employment of Vietnamese students after graduation” (MOTIVE) organizes the workshop “Building a National Job Portal for graduates in Vietnam”. The workshop is hosted by Hanoi University of Home Affairs at Quang Nam Campus. In the context of the Covid-19 epidemic, the workshop takes place in a hybrid mode of face-to-face and online via Zoom platform.

Participating in the workshop, from European partners, there are the Association of Universities AlmaLaurea and the University of Bologna (Italy). From Vietnam, there are the Department of Political and Student Affairs, Ministry of Education and Training; Hanoi University; Posts and Telecommunications Academy; Central University of Art Education; Vietnam National University of Agriculture; Thai Nguyen University; University of Home Affairs; Hanoi College of Tourism; Ha Long University; Academy of Journalism and Propaganda.

The Center for Training Support and Human Resource Supply – Ministry of Education and Training, Hanoi Association of Small and Medium Enterprises, Ton Duc Thang University, Ho Chi Minh City Open University, Duy Tan University (Da Nang), Phu Xuan University (Hue),  Thu Dau Mot University (HCMC) and Hoa Sen University (HCMC)  also attends the workshop

Giving opening remarks, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ba Chien, Rector of Hanoi University of Home Affairs welcomes the project members, and emphasizes the importance of the project in the development strategy of the universities. The employment status of graduates is one of the most concerning issues of universities. the conduct of the graduate career survey within the framework of the MOTIVE project will contribute to strengthening the training capacity of the university and the employment opportunities of students after graduation, especially in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic.

At the workshop, Mr. Doan Hong Ha, Deputy Director General of the Department of Political and Student-Student Affairs emphasizes the importance of the project “Monitoring employment trends of Vietnamese students after graduation”. The project creates opportunities for domestic training institutions to build domestic networks and facilitates Vietnamese universities to exchange with European partners about job opportunities and entrepreneurship of students. Mr. Doan Hong Ha says that the outputs of the MOTIVE project are an important channel for the Ministry of Education and Training to build a database on graduates to improve students’ employment opportunities.

On the first working day, delegates listen to and discuss reports on graduate survey results, reports on results of building a National Job Portal for graduates in Vietnam of Hanoi University and reports on the results of developing a Media Handbook of the Academy of Journalism and Communication. The specialized teams of the project also engage in-depth discussions, focusing on proposing solutions to some outstanding issues and orienting operational plans in the near future.

Ms. Ngo Phuong Dung from Hanoi University presentes a report on the current status of graduate students’ employment survey data and methods of cleaning and encoding data to develop the survey report. Accordingly, all the units have completed the survey of the employment status of graduates with satisfactory rates. However, data encryption is difficult due to inconsistencies in how answers to open-ended questions are recorded in the questionnaire.

At the workshop, presentations are received from representatives of universities that are members of the MOTIVE Project and invited guests, including: Plan to build a National Job Portal for graduates in Vietnam; Interested in students who do not have jobs, especially students in the first 5 years after graduation; The activity connects with both alumni and schools, creating relationships to connect with sustainable jobs…

Representatives from participating universities and colleges give speeches to contribute ideas to build the project, share experiences, for the goal of learners having jobs for students after graduation.

The delegations meet and work with Hoi An Tourism Business Association

Within the framework of the workshop, the delegation have a meeting and working with the Hoi An Tourism Business Association. The meeting helps to connect and enhance understanding between the MOTIVE project and the Quang Nam business network. The MOTIVE project aims to create a connection between graduates and employers, thereby helping students find jobs suitable for their training majors after graduation.

Mr. Dorel Manitiu, Project Coordinator speaks at the workshop

At the workshop, Mr. Dorel Manitiu, Project Coordinator announces the prize of the writing contest “Graduates and the Labor Market”. The article “Career orientation of final year students in Vietnam in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic” by a group of students from Hanoi University wins the excellent award. The author of the article will be covered by the project and presented at the next workshop of the project in Bologna (Italy) in May 2022.

In the coming time, the project will focus on completing the employment status report of graduate students. Member schools will need to agree on the general structure of the report, how to encrypt and process data, thereby making appropriate recommendations on vocational training. In addition, member schools also need to assign appropriate personnel to promote the project to new partners, businesses and build the project’s portal.

The MOTIVE project aims to study the employment status of graduates in Vietnam and promote cooperation between universities, colleges and businesses; The project also aims to strengthen the direct connection between students and businesses through the website and Fanpage of the Project to improve job opportunities for graduates. The project is funded by the European Union’s Erasmus+ programme.
