The 2nd “Teaching Social Sciences at the School of Foreign Languages: Orientation & Challenges” Conference

The social sciences and humanities are widely known as playing an important role in the social development because of its mission in providing manpower resources, training qualified and capable students to undertake teaching, research, managerial positions after graduation. There must be teachers good at basic sciences in general and social sciences in particular to teach students well and develop educational science firmly.

Recognizing the role and importance of the social sciences, over the years, the School of Foreign Languages – Thai Nguyen University has been attaching great importance to training in the social sciences and humanities. The conference’s purpose is creating opportunities for lecturers to exchange, discuss and share their theoretical and practical experiences in the social sciences’ teaching process, thereby improving the quality of teaching and learning social sciences subjects. In the morning of November 28, 2020, School of Foreign Languages held conference themed “Teaching social sciences at School of Foreign Languages: Orientation & Challenges” for the second time. This conference continues the first conference’s success held in 2019.
Attending the conference were Dr. Dang Thi Thanh Huong, Vice Rector of School of Foreign Languages and Deputy Head of the Conference Organizing Committee ( on behalf of the Governing Board of School of Foreign Languages), Nguyen Thi Ngoc Anh (M.A), Head of Basic Sciences Department, Head of the Conference Professional and Editorial Committee, Nguyen Phuong Thuy (M.A), Deputy Head of Basic Sciences Department, Deputy Head of the Conference Professional and Editorial Committee, Nguyen Thi Nhu Nguyet (M.A.) – Head of Russian Language Department, Nguyen Ngoc Huong (M.S), Head of IT and Library Office, together with representatives of scientists and teachers from universities and colleges in Thai Nguyen province.
Giving the opening speech at the conference, Dr. Dang Thi Thanh Huong warmly welcomed delegates and scientists who attended the conference. 52 out of 63 articles by local lecturers and scientists were opted to be published for the conference proceedings. She hoped that School of Foreign Languages – Thai Nguyen University in particular and other universities in general would receive many valuable comments to improve the quality of teaching and learning social sciences following new syllabi and curricula.

The articles in the conference proceedings are arranged in to five themes:

– Market-oriented Economy and building economic institutions in Vietnam; International integration and guaranteeing national interests;
– Improving ethical dignity and professional capacity for students to meet demand of industrialization and modernization;

– Linguistics and Vietnamese linguistics;
– Language with literature;
– Language and culture;
– Dialects and culture;
– Languages ​​of ethnic minorities.
+ Psychology
– Personality Psychology;
– Schooling psychology in the 4.0 Industrial Revolution;
– Building psychological solutions in schools:
– Practical and strategic skills;
– Career-ready teaching for students to meet competency standards after graduation.
IT and IT application in teaching
– E-learning;
– Games and educational software;
– Mobile applications for teaching and learning;
– Teaching in the 4.0 era;
– Software tools to assess FL learning;
– Teaching methods of Informatics for FL students;
+ Physical education
– Current situation and solutions of physical education in universities;
– Physical education curriculum of universities and colleges;
– School-based sports clubs;
– Socialization of physical education and sports;
– Physical educations and sports economics;

The articles indicated the authors’ enthusiasm in teaching and research from their practical teaching and learning of social sciences at the School of Foreign Languages ​​- Thai Nguyen University and will be useful resources for the teaching and learning of social sciences at tertiary level at the moment.
